Tom's News - September 2010

Posters

I’ve had some new double-sided A5 posters printed featuring all of my football book covers. To see what they look like, see my blog entry http://footballdetective.blogspot.com/2010/08/do-you-want-some-free-posters.html .

One side of the poster features a list of tips for reluctant readers who are interested in football and how they might like to find out more in their public or school library.

If you would like some copies of the posters for your school or library please email Rebecca at admin.tompalmer@talktalk.net with your postal address and the number you would like. And please let other people know about them if you think they might be interested.

My schools’ pack – with ideas and activities to use around my books – has also been updated and is available with the posters or on my website at www.tompalmer.co.uk  .

Events

I have a full events schedule from September to mid-November, but I do have a few gaps in late November and December, then into 2011. If you’d like me to visit your school or library there is information on my website at http://www.tompalmer.co.uk/index.php?page_id=33 or you can email Rebecca at admin.tompalmer@talktalk.net.

New Resources

The summer World Cup activities and story that I worked on with the National Literacy Trust was a great success, with thousands of schools using the material.

As a result, we have reworked the material so that it can be used in relation to all football, and not just the World cup. The toolkit of ideas and writing exercises have been updated and three exclusive stories by me for different ages are available to be read in the classroom. One of the stories is in five cliff hanger sections to be read to classes over a week.

There will also be a national writing competition with huge prizes and a poster to help you promote it.

The material is all FREE and available to download (from 14 Sept 2010) at http:/www.literacytrust.org.uk/reading_the_game/resources/tom_palmer_resources  .

Book News

The fourth Foul Play book, Killer Pass, featuring Danny Harte from the World Cup Mystery is published on October 7.

Several footballers have been burgled while playing away games for City FC and the police haven’t a clue who is doing it. But when Danny Harte meets a former youth player, who seems very bitter about being released by the club, another football detecting adventure begins.

Now it’s autumn I am starting a new series of books. It is all a secret for now, but I’ll be able to say more towards the end of the year.

Signed Posters

Would you like a free signed poster of my books? If so, let us have your school’s postal address and we’ll send it there. Or your home address, if that’s okay with your parents. We’ll put the first chapter of Killer Pass in with it, plus our new red and yellow cards.

Competition

The National Literacy Trust are running a national writing competition to do with my books this autumn. You can do it yourself or through school. There is more information (from 14 September 2010) at http://www.literacytrust.org.uk/reading_the_game/resources/tom_palmer_competition .
